Map View: The Netherlands

The results from the site identification for the benchmark case in the Dutch EEZ of the North Sea are presented. The analysis of geospatial and use-specific data results in three potential sites for the investigated area.

Identification Method

The site identification is based on the summation of five representative parameters (water depth, geology, distance to navigation routes and reservation areas, vicinity to offshore wind farms) to a total score. The site identification thus starts with a suitable water depth for the operation and construction of a LH-PHES. Areas with navigation and environmental protection are highlighted. Furthermore, the vicinity to marine energy projects such as offshore wind farms offers synergies for planning, commissioning and operation. The results show the three sites with the highest score.

Results

The site identification in the Dutch EEZ (North Sea) results in three potential sites. There are indications of consolidated clay layers in the vicinity of all three sites. The site closest to shore is near by other use-specific occupied areas. The two other sites are located further offshore.
